Landless People – Building a Social Movement
2
is a striking book.
The author draws the reader on a walk across an unknown world, an emotional trip full of permanent
surprises.
The subject of the Movement of Landless Workers (MST) has become practically a legend. A lot is said about
it, but not much is known.
Important works have been published in Brazil on the MST, among them the interview-book
Brava Gente
(Brave People) in which the most outstanding leader of the Movement, João Pedro Stédile, evoques its history
within the context of the struggles of Brazilian society.
Marta Harnecker’s book now fills the need for more extensive qualified foreign bibliography on the MST.
Her study comes in response to an intense curiosity about an organization still veiled in mystery for millions
of people.
